Tragedy at Mt. Irvine Beach

February 24, 2026 — It was a calm Monday afternoon at Mt. Irvine Beach that ended in a sudden loss for the Carnbee community. Police are currently investigating the suspected drowning of 83-year-old Godwin Williams, a resident of Riseland Trace, Carnbee.

According to reports, Mr. Williams, a well-known and frequent visitor to the beach, entered the water around 3:00 PM on Monday. Sometime later, onlookers noticed him floating face down in the water. He was quickly pulled to shore, where beachgoers and emergency responders attempted to perform CPR.

Despite their best efforts, Mr. Williams could not be revived and showed no signs of life. He was subsequently pronounced dead by a District Medical Officer (DMO). Preliminary police reports indicate that no foul play is suspected, and the incident is being treated as a tragic accidental drowning.

The loss has sent shockwaves through the quiet Carnbee neighborhood, where Mr. Williams was a familiar and respected figure.
