Scarborough, Tobago – October 1, 2024 – A Tobago man is remanded in custody after being charged by the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Tobago, on Tuesday. Jay Quashie, a 23-year-old labourer from Mary’s Hill, has been charged with murder and multiple counts of wounding in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on August 21, 2024.
Quashie appeared virtually in the High Court of Justice’s Criminal Division before Master Margaret Sookraj-Goswami on September 25. His matter was adjourned to October 15th, 2025. On Monday, an audience was held with the Director of Public Prosecutions (Ag.), Mrs. Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal, who advised that Jay Quashie be charged with the offenses.
According to police reports, officers were alerted to gunfire around 7:39 PM on the day of the incident on Friendfield Road. Upon arrival, they found three men suffering from gunshot wounds, and a fourth man, Kerlon Thomas, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene by the district medical officer. Investigations indicate that a group of men was gathered on the roadside when three armed individuals emerged from a white wagon and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
