Scarborough, Tobago – June 6, 2024 – Despite requesting $153 million to cover the extensive bills for the Gulfstream oil spill clean-up, the central government is only prepared to allocate to the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) a third of that request.
During the Standing Finance Committee Meeting in Parliament (on June 3, 2024), Finance Minister Colm Imbert stated that they determined $50 million would suffice based on documentation provided by the THA. This allocation, significantly less than the initial request, highlights the financial challenges and ongoing discussions surrounding the costs of the Tobago oil spill recovery efforts.
