October 25, 2024 – On Thursday, October 24th, the NLCB Steelpan Buccaneers of Tobago embarked on a cultural mission to introduce Trinidad and Tobago’s national instrument, the steelpan, to Colombia. The band is scheduled to participate in a workshop, cultural exchange, and a performance at Columbia’s Green Moon Festival.
This opportunity stemmed from a travel documentary filmed in Tobago in October 2022 by the Teleislas Channel, which sought to showcase the cultural similarities across the Caribbean. The Buccaneers’ exceptional performance during the filming afforded them the chance to introduce the steelpan to San Andrés, Colombia. As part of this cultural exchange, two individuals from Colombia will have the opportunity to visit Trinidad and Tobago in 2025 to experience the Panorama steelpan competition.
