The Prime Minister says that an SOE is not the best option
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – [Month] 2024 – Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley commented on the ongoing national discussion surrounding crime, stating that while holding a State of Emergency (SOE) is not a new concept, it remains “not the best option” for addressing the country’s crime challenges.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came after he addressed the recent Anti-Crime Talks hosted by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar last Monday. Dr. Rowley indicated that, in his view, one of the primary solutions emerging from those opposition-led discussions was the suggestion of implementing a State of Emergency.
His commentary highlights the differing approaches between the government and the opposition in tackling Trinidad and Tobago’s persistent crime issues, emphasizing a divergence in proposed strategies for national security.
