P.M. Dr. Keith Rowley says the claim for oil spill compensation dropped from US $30 million to US $23 million
Scarborough, Tobago – Claims for oil spill compensation related to the recent environmental disaster in Tobago have significantly dropped from 30 million to 23 million US dollars. Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley revealed this information last night during Tobago’s edition of “Conversations with the Prime Minister.”
The Prime Minister stated that the government is actively working with the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPCF) to secure money to cover expenses associated with the Gulfstream oil spill. However, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has expressed dissatisfaction, complaining that the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) was not included in these crucial compensation discussions. This exclusion highlights ongoing tensions regarding the management and financial implications of the oil spill response in Tobago.
