August 29, 2024 – Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is not prepared to subscribe to a conspiracy theory that there might be contraband on board the Gulfstream barge. The vessel was towed to Sea Lots in Trinidad, where it is to be salvaged. However, on Friday, August 23rd, a few individuals tried to illegally board the vessel and engaged in a shootout with the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard. This incident sparked theories that there might be contraband on the vessel; however, Dr. Rowley refuted these claims.
The Prime Minister’s comments underscore the government’s focus on an official investigation into the vessel’s ownership and the cause of the oil spill, while dismissing unsubstantiated theories surrounding its cargo.
