Refunds and Credits for Passengers

Passengers on the airbridge were not left out of CAL’s compensation packages, following mass flight cancellations over the weekend, according to CEO Garvin Medera. As early as Friday, Medera reported they began receiving sick calls from pilots. It resulted in approximately sixty flights being cancelled, affecting over five thousand passengers. Pilots are unsatisfied with the state of the current wage negotiations. But Medera explained they are asking for over and above the annual rate.

CAL lost at least $15 million as a result of the cancellations. Medera placed the blame squarely on the pilots. Medera said the sick-out hurt the company’s reputation at a time when they were in survival mode. The press conference was held at CAL’s head office in Piarco, Trinidad, not allowing Tobago Updates to attend on short notice. As a result, we were able to question Medera on other issues related to the airbridge. Meanwhile, the head of CAL Corporate Communications continues to ignore our requests for interviews.
