August 19, 2025 -A major enforcement operation is underway at Tobago’s renowned Buccoo Reef Marine Park as authorities launch Operation Reef Shield, a coordinated crackdown on illegal activities threatening the protected marine environment.
The sweeping, multi-agency initiative aims to safeguard one of Tobago’s most vital and delicate ecosystems, which has faced increasing pressure from unregulated tourism, illegal fishing, and environmental degradation. Officials from several government and environmental agencies are working together to patrol the area, enforce marine protection laws, and crack down on violators.
The operation marks a significant step in the island’s ongoing efforts to preserve its natural heritage and ensure the long-term sustainability of the reef, which plays a crucial role in biodiversity, coastal protection, and the local tourism economy.
More updates are expected as the operation continues throughout the week.
