Reconsider Giving Tobago Only $50 Million for Oil Spill Cleanup, Urges Independent Senator Dr. Maria Dillon-Remy
Independent Senator Dr. Maria Dillon-Remy wants the Finance Minister to reconsider allocating only $50 Million to T.H.A. for oil spill clean-up.
Tobago – June 14, 2024 – Independent Senator Dr. Maria Dillon-Remy has formally requested that the Ministry of Finance reconsider allocating only $50 million to the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) for oil spill clean-up.
During the debate on the supplemental appropriation for fiscal 2024 (which passed the Senate on June 11, 2024), Dr. Dillon-Remy stated that the figure is inadequate to meet the highlighted needs of the island. She further questioned the source of the funding, underscoring ongoing concerns about the financial provision for Tobago’s oil spill recovery and the full extent of the environmental damage.
