Speyside, Tobago – The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Executive Council is facing significant challenges in financing crucial developmental projects, with only $260 million allocated for developmental expenditure.
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine recently addressed these concerns, following a two-day retreat at the Manta Lodge Resort in Speyside, where the executive council convened to discuss budgetary priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.
During a press conference, Augustine explained that a substantial portion of the $260 million development budget is already earmarked for paying developmental workers, leaving a limited amount for new projects. This highlights the ongoing financial constraints impacting Tobago’s progress.
Furthermore, Chief Secretary Augustine also responded to recent comments made by Tobago Senator Laurence Hislop regarding the release of allocations to the THA from the central government.
Kandace Jackson provides a detailed report on the THA’s fiscal challenges, the strategic discussions held during the retreat, and the Chief Secretary’s response to the allocation concerns.
