Scarborough, Tobago – August 6, 2025 – The Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment & Sustainable Development is urging pig farmers in Tobago to be vigilant, as the island confronts a new animal disease, Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), or what is commonly known as “Blue Ear Disease.” Reporter Jewel Greene-George has more on the advisory. While the virus can cause severe respiratory and reproductive issues in pigs, it’s important to note that pork from affected animals is still safe for human consumption when properly handled and cooked.
