Trinidad and Tobago – June 24, 2024 – The Ministry of Health has received the much-anticipated Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) report on the tragic deaths of seven babies at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Delivered on Friday, June 21, 2024, the report will now undergo an internal review by clinical and technical staff from both the Ministry and the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) before its findings are made public. This crucial step precedes full transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding the NICU baby deaths and aims to inform future protocols for neonatal care in Trinidad and Tobago.
