July 22, 2025 – A new Office of Procurement Regulation (OPR) report is shedding light on how taxpayer dollars are being spent in Tobago, with a key Tobago House of Assembly (THA) division earning high marks for accountability.
The Division of Settlements, Public Utilities, and Rural Development has been ranked second out of fourteen public bodies for its compliance with strict procurement regulations. This impressive ranking is based on the OPR’s (CAC) Compliance Assessment Checklist, a crucial tool used to assess adherence to the legislative, regulatory, and operational frameworks governing public procurement in Trinidad and Tobago by public bodies. This is crucial for ensuring that citizens receive the best value for their public money.
In its latest annual report, the Office of Procurement Regulation awarded the division an impressive 90.6% compliance score. The Division, in a social media post, stated that this high rating demonstrates its commitment to fairness and transparency. The ranking places a significant spotlight on the growing push for accountability in public spending across Tobago and Trinidad and Tobago.
