September 8, 2025- The Ministry of Culture and Community Development has appointed a new board of directors for the National Commission for Self-Help Limited, ushering in fresh leadership for the 38-year-old state agency dedicated to grassroots community development.
Businessman Vishnu Ramlakhan will serve as Chairman, with educator Betty Doolarie Ramnarine appointed as Vice Chairman of the 12-member board.
Speaking at the appointment ceremony in Port of Spain, Minister Michelle Benjamin urged the new board to reaffirm their commitment to service. She emphasised the critical role of the Commission, stating it must continue to deliver “timely and effective support, especially to the most vulnerable.”
The Commission plays a vital role in national development, disbursing millions in grants each year for minor repairs, home improvement, paving works, and other small-scale infrastructure projects across Trinidad and Tobago.
