March 10, 2025 – There was a time when politics was seen as a male-dominated field. However, advocacy for gender equality and women’s rights has created more opportunities for women to serve in public office. During an interview on the Tobago Updates Morning Show, Member of Parliament for Tobago East and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy, shared her perspective on being a female politician. Webster-Roy has consistently highlighted the importance of women in leadership and has praised the increasing number of women holding key positions in Trinidad and Tobago. She believes that the inclusion of women’s perspectives in decision-making processes is crucial for fostering safer and more inclusive communities.
