Minority Leader Questions The Termination Of Workers In September 2023
Scarborough, Tobago – September 2023 – During a recent plenary sitting at the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Minority Leader Kelvon Morris brought forward a motion directly questioning the wrongful termination of over 60 workers at the Tobago Agribusiness Development Company (TADCO).
Morris’s motion highlighted significant concerns regarding the non-renewal of contracts for these employees, which he described as a “heartless act” in previous public statements. The line Secretary with responsibility for TADCO subsequently responded to Morris’ motion during the session, addressing the allegations and providing the administration’s perspective on the matter.
This debate in the THA Legislature underscores ongoing tensions surrounding employment practices within state-affiliated entities in Tobago and the political discourse concerning labor rights and job security on the island. The issue of the TADCO workers’ contracts has been a key point of contention between the opposition and the current THA administration.
