March 18, 2025 – The Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities, and Transportation has praised the heroic efforts of lifeguards and visiting first responders who saved the life of Pilot Christon Battersby after a diving accident at the Pigeon Point Heritage Park on March 15th. Lifeguards Ainswell Mapp, Kern Jackson, and Fred London swiftly rescued Battersby, who later lost consciousness. CPR was administered with assistance from visiting first responders Patrick Evans of the USA, Sarah Persson of Sweden, and Anna Hospedales of Canada. Their quick actions, alongside emergency personnel, ensured Battersby was revived and transported to Scarborough General Hospital. The Division extended best wishes for his recovery and urged the public to practice water safety.
