Iwer George Strikes Again

Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – Following significant backlash over the inclusion of the National Anthem in his initial release of “Happy People,” Soca artiste Neil “Iwer” George has now dropped an alternative version of the song.

The updated track uniquely incorporates another beloved national song, “God Bless Our Nation.” This new rendition is already receiving mixed reviews from the public. The original version of “Happy People” faced widespread criticism, not only from social media users but also notably from Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, who expressed his displeasure at the unconventional use of the National Anthem.

Iwer George’s decision to pivot to “God Bless Our Nation” suggests an attempt to navigate the controversy while maintaining a patriotic theme for the 2024 Carnival season. The varying public reception indicates an ongoing discussion about artistic freedom and the appropriate use of national symbols within Trinidad and Tobago’s vibrant music landscape.
