March 24, 2025 – The Department of Natural Resources and Forestry in the Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development observed the International Day of Forests on March 21st. They highlighted the vital role forests play in combating climate change and raising awareness about their degradation. To mark the occasion, staff led the Harcon Harrington Consulting team on a tour of the Main Ridge Forest Reserve, the world’s oldest legally protected forest reserve in the Western Hemisphere. The Department also took steps to improve safety for hikers by installing wooden posts and ropes along rainforest trails.
