Integrity Commission confirms letter alleging an investigation into Secretary Trevor James is fake
Scarborough, Tobago – The Integrity Commission is alerting the public that a letter purportedly originating from the Commission, which accuses Secretary of Infrastructure, Quarries, and Urban Development Trevor James of misconduct, is fake. This fraudulent document has been circulating widely in the public domain.
The Commission has thoroughly discredited the counterfeit letter, confirming that it misuses the Commission’s official letterhead and features an unauthorized signature falsely claimed to be from the Acting Registrar. The Integrity Commission emphasized that the named signatory is not, and has never been, associated with their staff. The body strongly condemned this attempt to mislead the public and discredit its organization, reiterating its commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity. It has urged an immediate halt to the unauthorized use of its letterhead and the distribution of such counterfeit documents.
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine noted yesterday (referring to the day prior to the Commission’s official discrediting of the letter) that the fake letter was accompanied by printouts of WhatsApp messages. These messages allegedly claimed that Secretary James attempted to coerce $4 million from a contractor on Augustine’s behalf. Augustine explained that he observed several anomalies in the letter, prompting him to seek verification directly from the Integrity Commission. According to the Chief Secretary, this incident represents another failed attempt by his political opponents to discredit his administration.
