IDB grants US$42 million loan to Trinidad and Tobago for Digital Development
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – Minister of Planning and Development, Pennelope Beckles, and IDB President Ilan Goldfajn officially signed a US$90 million Conditional Credit Line for Investment Projects, primarily focused on digital transformation for Trinidad and Tobago. This includes a significant US$42 million loan.
Minister Beckles, representing Trinidad and Tobago, emphasized the critical significance of digitalization for national development, highlighting its potential to drive progress across various sectors. IDB President Goldfajn underscored the importance of this project in addressing the country’s low productivity levels.
The project, which received approval in December 2023, is designed to significantly enhance digital technology adoption, foster innovation, and strengthen cybersecurity within the nation. It aims to support over 150 firms in their digital transition and provide advanced training to public service employees, boosting digital literacy and capacity within the government.
Furthermore, this initiative places a strong emphasis on promoting digital inclusion, with particular focus on ensuring access and opportunities for people with disabilities and women-led firms, aiming for a more equitable digital landscape.
