Parlatuvier, Tobago – The Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sarah Smith and her two children, Genuine and Phoenix Smith, who were found dead in a decommissioned water tank in Parlatuvier on Wednesday night.
Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt Angus, the IDA’s Political Leader, shared her anguish, noting that she had previously assisted the family with relief hampers and had observed their dire living conditions firsthand. She highlighted the woman’s resilience despite severe hardships, including her efforts to open a tuck shop to support her family.
Dr. Angus criticized the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) for what she described as a failure to provide the family with adequate assistance and employment. She emphasized this incident as a stark reminder of systemic failures and concluded with a call for urgent reform in social support systems, vowing that the IDA will advocate for meaningful change to prevent such scenarios in the future. The IDA extends its heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and community.
