Scarborough, Tobago – While Chief Technical Advisor Anslem Richards recently blamed Ancil Dennis for the financial struggles of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), the Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA) argues that the issue lies with the system itself, not Dennis.
The IDA stresses the urgent need for an elected Senate that would empower Tobagonians with independent, accountable representation, free from party politics. The party also criticized the use of design-build-finance models, which they believe places an unnecessary financial burden on Tobago’s people. They argue that the $500 million from the central government is insufficient to address Tobago’s long-standing developmental gaps.
Instead, the IDA proposes allocating 30-35% of the national development budget to Tobago, which they believe would ensure strategic, sustainable development and unlock the island’s full potential.
