March 3, 2025 – Independent Senator Helon Francis has been crowned the Calypso Monarch 2025, winning his second title with a stirring performance of his song, “To Whom It May Be.” His victory, with a final score of 268 points, came after a keenly contested final at the Dimanche Gras stage, where he defeated defending champion Machel Montano.
Kurt Allen, known as “The Last Badjohn of Calypso,” placed second with his song, “Your Turn Now,” scoring 267 points—just one point behind the winner. Rising star Akhenaton “Yung Bredda” Lewis secured third place with his socially conscious composition, “We Rise,” while Machel Montano finished fifth with his song, “Bet Meh.”
The competition, which included seven past monarchs, was held on Sunday at the Queen’s Park Savannah and was widely hailed as a return to traditional calypso values.
