Fishermen Concerned About Seismic Surveys

A.t.f.a. Shares Their Concerns About Seismic Surveys Being Conducted Around Tobago

Scarborough, Tobago – The All Tobago Fisher Folk Association (ATFA) is raising a significant alarm, expressing deep criticism and disappointment over a recent seismic survey initiated by an oil company on November 7th. The ATFA states that the Director of Fisheries failed to consult them on this critical activity.

At a press conference held today, fisherfolk leaders voiced serious concerns about the impact of seismic surveys on their livelihoods and Tobago’s marine environment. They argue that the lack of prior consultation is unacceptable given the potential disruption to fish populations and traditional fishing grounds, which directly affect the economic well-being of Tobago’s fishing communities.

This issue highlights ongoing tensions between energy exploration and the vital fishing industry in Tobago, underscoring the demand for greater transparency and stakeholder engagement.

Arianna Scipio has the full report on the ATFA’s grievances and their call for immediate action regarding the seismic survey.
