Scarborough, Tobago – The Studley Park Landfill, Tobago’s only such facility, is rapidly approaching its maximum carrying capacity. This critical issue is now a top priority for the Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development, which is actively developing comprehensive plans to address the concern.
Secretary Nathisha Charles-Pantin disclosed this pressing challenge, emphasizing the immediate need for advanced waste management strategies across Tobago. The Division is crafting a multi-faceted approach to tackle the landfill’s strained capacity. This plan likely includes initiatives focused on reducing waste generation, aggressively promoting recycling, and improving overall waste disposal practices island-wide.
Such crucial efforts often extend to robust community engagement, including programs to foster cleanliness in schools and extensive public education on responsible waste handling. These measures are essential to ensure the long-term environmental sustainability of Tobago. The Division’s overarching plans aim to safeguard the island’s natural beauty and public health in the face of growing waste management demands.
