July 8, 2026 — The Division of Finance, Trade and the Economy, in collaboration with its Business Development Unit (BDU), has executed phase two of its agricultural capital asset support initiative, distributing brand-new Hyundai H-100 panel vans to qualified local farmers and agro-processors.
The vehicle distribution represents a tangible investment into the island’s primary food production infrastructure. By equipping local producers with reliable, temperature-controlled, and secure commercial transport, the initiative aims to solve critical post-harvest logistics bottlenecks, minimize crop spoilage, and strengthen the supply chain linking rural farm gates to local markets, supermarkets, hotels, and agro-processing facilities across Tobago. Upgrading Agro-Logistics and Empowering Local Food Producers
The vehicle handover forms part of broader strategic initiatives by the Assembly to bolster food security and small business sustainability:
Boosting Island Food Security: The capital distribution aligns directly with the THA’s macro agenda to increase local agricultural yields, reduce food import dependency, and expand commercial wholesale distribution across the sister isle.
Eliminating Farm-to-Market Transport Gaps: A major constraint facing small- and medium-scale producers has been the reliance on costly third-party freight or unsuitable private vehicles. The Hyundai H-100 commercial vans provide dedicated, high-capacity transport tailored for fresh produce, root crops, poultry, and packaged agro-products.
BDU Enterprise Assistance Support: Managed under the Business Development Unit’s enterprise assistance programs, qualifying applicants received structural financing, grant-matching, and business mentorship to ensure the sustainable commercial deployment and maintenance of the utility vehicles.
