Developing Loss and Damage Fund: SIDS Alliance Pushes for Climate Finance at SIDS4 Conference
$700 Million raised so far for Loss and Damage Fund for small island developing states.
June 6, 2024 – With the 2024 hurricane season expected to bring exceptionally strong storms, Trinidad and Tobago, along with the rest of the Caribbean, faces significant worry about dealing with the loss and damage resulting from such events and the struggles of economic recovery afterward.
This pressing concern is why the Alliance of Small Island Developing States (AOSIS) is actively pushing for the establishment of a Loss and Damage Fund. The concept is being presented to donors at the SIDS4 conference in Antigua and Barbuda, with the hope of attracting substantial pledges. This initiative aims to provide crucial financial support for climate change impacts and disaster recovery for vulnerable small island nations across the globe.
