CARICOM-Africa Day was vibrantly celebrated in Barbados today, September 7, 2024, marking the third commemoration of this significant annual event. The day serves as a crucial unifying platform for all CARICOM nations and Africa, dedicated to forging stronger partnerships in areas of development, trade, and collectively addressing common challenges faced by both regions.
The celebration featured captivating cultural performances showcasing African heritage, alongside insightful speeches from representatives of the African Union (AU), CARICOM, and the Government of Barbados. A special flag-raising ceremony was held at the Barbados Government Headquarters to mark the occasion. The flags of the African Union, CARICOM, and Barbados were proudly hoisted, set against the backdrop of the statue of the Right Excellent Sir Grantley Adams, a revered figure who served as both the first and last Prime Minister of the West Indies Federation.
Following the symbolic flag-raising, the national anthems of each respective entity were played with due respect. The rest of the day was dedicated to a series of productive meetings between African and CARICOM representatives, aimed at deepening collaboration and advancing shared objectives.
