Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors Dominate Bluefins Swim Meet, Clinch 2nd Overall & 13 M

Macoya, Trinidad – The Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors recently made an impressive splash at the 3rd Annual Bluefins Swim Meet, held at the Centre of Excellence Aquatic Facility on Sunday, March 24th, 2024. The 9-member contingent from Tobago showcased exceptional talent against 24 swim clubs from across the nation, returning home with a 2nd Place overall trophy and a remarkable thirteen medals.

Under the tutelage of Head Coach Mosi Denoon and Assistant Coach Rochelle Pierre, the young athletes from Tobago delivered powerful performances. The contingent included Amaya Henry, Jade Edwards, Kaliegh Abraham, Seanheim Alleyne, Izrael Charles, Zhade Leonce, and Shellon Cunningham, all contributing to the team’s success.

Individual and Relay Highlights:

Amaya Henry was a standout, securing 2nd Overall in the 13-14 Women Pre-Competitive Category and earning two individual medals. Henry swam to gold in the 25-meter Breaststroke event and claimed a bronze in the 25-meter Butterfly event.

Jade Edwards, also competing in the 13-14 Women Pre-Competitive Category, seized three individual medals. Edwards earned a silver in the 25-meter Butterfly event, and bronze medals in both the 25-meter Backstroke and 25-meter Freestyle events.

The relay team, comprising Amaya Henry, Jade Edwards, Seanheim Alleyne, and Zhade Leonce, swam to gold in the 100-meter Medley Relay, stopping the clock at an impressive 1:10.69. They finished ahead of RWB Aquatic Academy (1:13.90) and Flying Fish Swim Club (1:20.13). This formidable relay quartet also secured a silver medal in the 100-meter Freestyle Relay, clocking 1:02.99, just behind winners RWB Aquatic Academy (59.51).

These achievements reinforce Tobago’s growing presence in national swimming competitions and highlight the dedication and emerging talent within the island’s youth aquatic programs.
