Adjustments Coming to Demerit Points System to Enhance Road Safety in Trinidad and Tobago
Works & Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan defends demerits points system but announces some changes are coming soon.
June 9, 2024 – Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan today stressed the importance of the Demerit Point System (DPS) in transforming driving culture and enhancing road safety in Trinidad and Tobago. He made these comments during the 10th Anniversary Road Safety Awards ceremony on Wednesday (June 5, 2024).
Despite some public concerns, Minister Sinanan clarified that the DPS is primarily designed to foster positive driving behaviors rather than to generate government revenue or simply punish citizens. He indicated that the Demerit Point System is under continuous review, with potential adjustments being considered to further its goal of creating safer roads and promoting responsible driving habits across Trinidad and Tobago.
