Shelly-ann John, the manager of the Community Mediation Centre, expressed hopes that the nation would acquire a Peace Bell, similar to those in countries like Australia and Japan. She added that a Peace Bell would prove beneficial in workplace settings when conflicts arise.
Assemblyman Sonny Craig was also in attendance and offered some wise words at the mural painting regarding the importance of maintaining peace. He emphasized that, despite encountering individuals who may provoke us, our challenge is to foster peace and goodwill within our communities.
During an interview with Manager Shelly-ann John, she mentioned that peace murals had been installed at Signal Hill Secondary School and Speyside High School. When questioned about the importance of these murals, she explained that placing their hands on the mural symbolizes their commitment to taking action for peace.
The International Day of Peace contributes to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which have a universal aim of fostering a culture of peace.
