Privy Council allows Auditor General Jaiwantee Ramdass to proceed with lawsuit against Finance Minister over 2023 public accounts investigation.
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – Auditor General Jaiwantie Ramdass has been given the green light to proceed with her lawsuit against the government. The Privy Council in London has sided with her, throwing out an appeal from Finance Minister Colm Imbert and his Cabinet.
This means her case will now go ahead in the local High Court. The dispute began over the 2023 public accounts, which Ramdass claimed had overstated revenue by $3.4 billion. She said she was pressured to accept the new numbers, which her audit team could not verify. The Cabinet then decided to investigate her, a move she argued was unconstitutional. Now, the Privy Council has ruled that she has the right to challenge that investigation in court.
