Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – Trinidad and Tobago has officially secured the license for the Dragon gas deal, marking a major milestone set to significantly enhance the nation’s energy security and substantially boost its economy. Energy Minister Stuart Young signed the final documents in Caracas, Venezuela, paving the way for natural gas from Venezuela’s Dragon maritime field to flow directly to Trinidad and Tobago.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley celebrated this pivotal achievement, emphasizing that the deal opens the door to a new commercial frontier for the country. The Dragon gas deal, a crucial $1 billion agreement initially signed in 2018, had faced prior hurdles due to US sanctions on Venezuela. With these sanctions now lifted, the Dragon gas field is projected to produce around 150 million standard cubic feet of gas daily, promising substantial economic benefits for both nations involved. This development is particularly crucial for Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector and its long-term economic future, diversifying its gas supply.
