Scarborough, Tobago – The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries has confirmed the cessation of hydrocarbon discharge from the overturned Gulfstream vessel near Cove, Tobago. An underwater survey conducted by T&T Salvage/QT Environmental verified that the leak has been successfully stopped.
The expert team ensured that the vessel compartments, which were leaking bunker fuel, are now filled with seawater above the leak point, effectively halting the flow of fuel into the marine environment. Plans are now underway to meticulously assess and remove the remaining product from the vessel.
To aid in the ongoing hydrocarbon recovery efforts, two NOFI Current Busters and a Rapid Deployment Skimming System (RDSS) were strategically deployed. Additionally, regular overflights, conducted in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard, continue to monitor oil recovery operations on the water’s surface, ensuring comprehensive oversight of the Tobago oil spill cleanup.
