Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – The Gender and Child Affairs Division (GCA) collaborated with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to distribute 86 Dignity Kits and conduct sensitization training on March 6th, 2024. This initiative took place at the Office of the Prime Minister in St. Clair, as part of the ongoing International Women’s Day commemoration.
Minister Ayanna Webster-Roy personally handed the Kits to officials from the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (MRDLG). The GCA has collaborated with UNFPA since 2019 to provide these essential Dignity Kits, with funding from the European Union’s Spotlight Initiative, to assist vulnerable women and girls in emergency situations.
These Kits are designed to meet immediate needs, containing vital items such as menstrual health products, towels, underwear, and other hygiene essentials, enabling recipients to allocate their resources to other necessities. Additionally, the Kits incorporate safety tools and crucial information about available services. Sensitization sessions focused on the proper usage and distribution of these Kits, with plans to extend this support to Tobago later this year.
