300 Vials of Potent Opioid Missing After Public Health Facility Delivery – Urgent Investigation Underway

The Ministry of Health has launched an urgent investigation following the discovery that 300 vials of Fentanyl Injection are unaccounted for after a recent delivery to a public health facility. The discrepancy was identified on August 6, 2025, prompting swift action and a coordinated response. Fentanyl is a highly potent synthetic opioid, and even minute quantities can be fatal if misused, making this incident a matter of serious concern. In response, the Ministry is working closely with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the Ministry of Homeland Security to determine how the loss occurred and to implement safeguards against similar breaches. The public is strongly reminded that unauthorized possession, use, or distribution of fentanyl is illegal and extremely dangerous, and anyone with information is urged to contact the relevant authorities immediately.
