Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – Sextortion, a grave issue currently affecting society, was an urgent topic of discussion during a special sitting of Parliament in 2024. The debate was led by the Young Women Empowered to Serve cohort, which brought critical issues to the legislative chamber.
Among the notable young women participating were two representatives from Tobago: Kayleigh Lewis and Denisha Manning. Their presence ensured that Tobago’s perspective was heard on this sensitive and pressing social issue, advocating for increased awareness and action against the abuse of sexual authority. The discussion aimed to shed light on the pervasive nature of sextortion and its impact on victims, particularly focusing on how to develop more effective preventative measures and support systems.
