Tobago has tragically reported its 11th murder for 2023 with the discovery of the burnt remains of 40-year-old Giselle Thomas-Stowe on Tuesday morning. Her body was found along Gleneagles Drive in Mt. Irvine. Police believe a flammable liquid was used, and her hands and feet were tied with rope before her body was dumped in a drain.
Police are currently questioning a male suspect who, in connection with the murder, led them to the body. Thomas-Stowe was identified as a resident of Signal Hill.
Commenting on Tobago’s latest murder, Watson Duke, political leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots, described the incident as traumatizing for himself and his party members. Duke emphasized the need for intervention from social workers in this investigation.
He urged citizens of Trinidad and Tobago not to resort to violence as a justification for their reactions to emotionally charged situations, advocating instead for working through problems peacefully.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Tobago Business Chamber, Martin George, expressed concern that despite the government’s best efforts, violence continues to plague society. George also offered suggestions he believes could contribute to the reduction of violent incidents in Tobago.
The Homicide Bureau is currently leading investigations into the murder of Giselle Thomas-Stowe.
