P.d.p. Political Leader Watson Duke Questions Why The Windward Afro Queen Show Is Not A Part Of 2024 National Carnival
Scarborough, Tobago – February 5th, 2024 – The exclusion of the Windward Afro Queen Show from the official lineup of events for the [then-upcoming] 2024 National Carnival raised significant concerns from Watson Duke, the area representative for Roxborough/Argyle and Political Leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP).
At a press conference held today, Duke publicly accused the Farley Augustine-led THA administration of deliberately spiting the people of Roxborough. He argued that the cancellation was denying the community valuable business opportunities that they annually anticipate from the popular show. This move sparked debate about the allocation of Carnival events in Tobago and their economic impact on local communities.
The controversy highlights ongoing tensions regarding the planning and execution of Tobago’s Carnival celebrations and the distribution of economic benefits across the island’s districts.
Kandace Jackson has more details on this report, including Watson Duke’s full statement regarding the Windward Afro Queen Show’s 2024 absence and its impact on Roxborough.
