W.A.S.A. denies link between water rate increases and property taxes, says rates set by regulated industries commission act
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has issued a clarification, stating that any increase in water and sewerage rates is not tied to property taxes.
This statement came in response to remarks made by former government minister Mariano Browne on the TV6 Morning Edition on Tuesday, who suggested a link between utility rates and property values. WASA noted that the Regulated Industries Commission (RIC) is solely responsible for setting utility rates under the RIC Act. The agency stressed that it must comply with the RIC’s guidelines and has no authority to raise rates outside of this process.
