“Wetlands and human wellbeing” is the theme selected for this year’s World Wetlands Day. Wetlands serve as breeding grounds for many of the fish we consume while also absorbing carbon emissions, safeguarding the coastlines from rough seas and offering a natural revenue source for tourism. While the Bon Accord Lagoon is the most economically beneficial wetlands to Tobago, it is under threat from unregulated and unmonitored activity. In this special feature, reporter Kandace Jackson gives us some insight into what is happening on one of Tobago’s most precious resources.
