September 5, 2025- In a move set to reshape the future of national athletics, the Government has approved new legislation aimed at broadening the country’s sporting talent pool. The newly passed “Grandparent Law” will grant citizenship to individuals with at least one grandparent born in Trinidad and Tobago.
The law is expected to open the door for a wider range of athletes to represent the country on the international stage, especially those with Trinidadian heritage living abroad. Officials say the initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the competitiveness of national teams while embracing the global diaspora.
