August 22, 2025 – Tobago is set to welcome the Caribbean’s brightest young triathletes as the CARIFTA Triathlon, Mixed Relay, and Aquathlon Championship kicks off this Saturday, August 23rd. The thrilling two-day event at Courland Bay Heritage Park will feature over 200 competitors aged 11 to 23 from 13 Caribbean nations, all competing for top honours.
Douglas D’Abadie, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Triathlon Federation, recently highlighted Tobago’s ideal terrain for the championship during a media briefing. Adding to the excitement, the event will also serve as a regional Olympic qualifier, raising the stakes for all athletes.
Participants will come from Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Jamaica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts & Nevis, and the host nation Trinidad and Tobago.
The race route, extending from Black Rock to Pleasant Prospect, will require temporary road closures. D’Abadie acknowledged the potential inconvenience for motorists and residents but expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and support. He also warmly invited the community to come out and cheer on Team Trinidad and Tobago.
