Tobago’s hurricane preparedness

Tobagonians share their views on the island’s preparedness for the 2024 hurricane season.

The passage of Hurricane Beryl was an unprecedented event, bringing a wave of uncertainty as countries in the Caribbean, such as Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Jamaica, experienced the full brunt of the storm. Although Tobago was spared a direct hit, the sheer force of the Category 4 hurricane manifested in torrential rainfall and powerful winds, resulting in power outages, fallen trees, and other minor incidents. In light of predictions for a highly active hurricane season by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service, reporter Joeshel Dann and cameraman Judon Jofield sought public opinion on the effectiveness of the island’s response to Hurricane Beryl and its preparedness for the active hurricane season.
