Tobago Tourism in the Spotlight

Tobago’s tourism industry is currently under intense scrutiny, with Chief Secretary Farley Augustine urging stakeholders to directly confront persistent issues. During a recent town hall meeting in Bon Accord, he specifically highlighted the negative impact of touters at Store Bay and Pigeon Point. Their aggressive solicitation of business from visitors and their behavior during glass-bottomed tours are adversely affecting Tobago’s tourism reputation.

Augustine underscored that while such behavior is not unique to Tobago, it should not be tolerated on the island. He pointed out that due to Tobago’s small size, these negative actions have a more significant and detrimental impact on the island’s tourism product than they would in larger jurisdictions. The Chief Secretary called on all stakeholders to demonstrate greater professionalism in their interactions with visitors.
