Tobago Takes Center Stage in Times Square with Dazzling Carnival and Culture Showcase
August 15, 2025 – Tobago brought its vibrant spirit to the heart of New York City, staging a powerful cultural and tourism showcase in Times Square that left an unforgettable impression on the global stage.
The initiative—spearheaded by the Tobago House of Assembly and the Tobago Tourism Agency—kicked off with a captivating one-minute promotional video displayed on one of Times Square’s iconic digital billboards. The high-definition visuals spotlighted Tobago’s rich natural beauty, including its lush rainforests, crystal-clear beaches, and the vibrant energy of the upcoming Tobago Carnival 2025, set for October 24–26.
With Times Square seeing over 300,000 pedestrians daily, this high-traffic placement marks a strategic move to elevate Tobago’s visibility as a premier travel destination.
However, the spotlight didn’t end with the video. Visitors were treated to a live cultural performance that transformed Times Square into a slice of Tobago. Led by Chief Secretary Farley Augustine and Tobago Festivals Commission CEO Kern Cowan, the showcase featured the dynamic Tobago Performing Arts Company (TPAC).
The live event brought Tobago’s culture to life with rhythmic drumming, steelpan melodies, and captivating folk dances—an immersive experience made possible through collaboration between the Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation and the Tobago Festivals Commission.
“This is more than just promotion—it’s a statement,” said Chief Secretary Augustine, who was present in Times Square to witness the event firsthand. “We’re not just telling people about Tobago; we’re inviting them to feel it, hear it, and dance with it.”
The bold, two-pronged campaign marks a milestone in Tobago’s efforts to expand its global tourism reach and share its unique cultural identity with the world. The event also attracted many members of the Tobagonian diaspora, who were thrilled to see their island’s culture celebrated so prominently. Melba, a proud Tobagonian living in the US, reflected on the significance of the event. The music and dance also resonated deeply with those who have a close connection to the island’s rich cultural history. Another member of the diaspora, LauraLyn, a patron to the cultural show, spoke of her personal connection to the performers.
