August 20, 2025 – The Tobago House of Assembly’s Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development has launched a targeted eradication programme to address the growing threat posed by the Giant African Snail.

Running from August 18th to 22nd, the initiative will see dedicated teams deployed across several affected communities in Tobago to help control the invasive species. The Giant African Snail is known for its rapid reproduction and destructive impact on crops, gardens, and native ecosystems.

The Division stressed that community cooperation is vital to the success of the programme, and ongoing public participation will be key to controlling and ultimately eradicating the pest.
