Scarborough, Tobago – Trinidad and Tobago continues to face instances of child labour, a pressing issue that significantly impacts the physical, mental, spiritual, moral, and social health of children, alongside affecting their access to education. While laws exist to protect children against child labour, clear definitions regarding what constitutes light labour versus hazardous labour remain elusive, making it challenging for officers to enforce regulations and take necessary action.
For this reason, the Ministry of Labour is actively consulting with stakeholders across the country. They were in Tobago on Wednesday, engaging local representatives to discuss and clarify the guidelines. This initiative aims to refine policies, ensuring that legal frameworks are robust and effective in combating child labour and protecting the nation’s children.
